The Wellness Model
True health is optimal physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

To visit a medical doctor when feeling great is usually not done. Yet, a growing number of people visit a chiropractor on a regular basis.

Drinking more water, eating nutritious foods, regular exercise and virtually every other healthy habit produces even bigger dividends when you have a properly working nervous system.

Although everyone wants to feel good, care should not be based on whether you have pain or other symptoms. Just like dental cavities, high blood pressure or heart disease, subluxations can be present without any obvious symptoms.

We were brought up to believe that having symptoms meant you were sick. What about when you are sick and not aware that you are sick?

The First Symptom
Do you remember staying home from school when sick and returning when feeling better? We learned to think of being sick as having obvious symptoms, but these days many health problems are the result of lifestyle choices that don’t always have obvious symptoms until the effects are well advanced.
The reverse is also true.

Feeling Well Versus Functioning Well – A Healthy Response
For example, let’s say you eat some spoiled food. Later you get stomach cramps and vomit. You certainly don’t feel well, but thankfully your body is having a healthy response. Imagine the consequences of taking a drug to calm your stomach, thereby retaining the toxic food.

Vomiting, sneezing, coughing and even fevers may actually be signs that your body is working correctly.

Most people think that how they feel is an indicator of how healthy they are. That is not true. True health is when your body works at its optimum.

It turns out that true health is how well our bodies work, not only how we feel.

Central Control
The brain, spinal cord and all of the nerves control and regulate the body. Every cell, tissue, organ and system – even the immune system – takes orders from the nervous system. How well the body functions, is based upon the integrity of the nervous system.

Many people with spinal problems discover other health problems resolve with chiropractic care. Reducing nervous system disturbances along the spine has been known to produce positive changes throughout the body.

This is why many informed people seek regular chiropractic adjustments for ‘wellness’. They want to make sure that every organ and tissue has an uncompromised nerve supply. It just makes sense to detect little problems before they become serious problems.

That is why it is called ‘Wellness Care’.

Stay Functioning Well
By the time most adults seek chiropractic care, they are often experiencing the effects of years of spinal neglect. Due to this long-standing neglect, ‘feeling well’ occurs long before the spine is strengthened and retrained and the body is ‘functioning well’.

Increasing Patient Responsibility
True health is not something someone does for you. Rather, it is a partnership that combines action along with information, inspiration and the creation of new, healthier habits.
